User review:
I am an avid reader of all types of literature--fiction and nonfiction books of all genres, newspapers, cereal boxes . . . Because I know good writing when I read it, I considered myself a pretty good writer. Still, I found process laborious. Also, as an educator who preaches the importance of lifelong learning, I wanted to practice what I preach. I decided to try this course to see if it could make the writing process more enjoyable. The systematic approach and demonstrations of each step is so user-friendly. I'm happy to report that the course did indeed make the writing process less laborious and more enjoyable! (Speaking as an educator of 20+ years myself, Shani Raja is a natural teacher.) [1]... Read More

It is often remarked as a general rule that the only way to learn something is to do it. Writing is no exception. If you do wish to improve your writing then write.
With that said, Professor Barry outlines ways in which to analyze your own writing, as well as others. This is invaluable to someone who wishes to improve their communication in the written form. Moreover, Professor Barry teaches how to get better at getting better in the most general sense.
For these two reasons, I have found this course to be immensely impactful on the way I approach writing and learning. I suppose there is no greater takeaway one can wish for in a writing course. [2]... Read More

User review:
Very good and well organized course. It appears to focus mostly on law, but it's still a valuable editing course.
One thing that needs fixing (or explaining in case I missed something) is to distinguish between paying and non-paying participants. I keep getting marked as "overdue" even thought I completed all the requirements by the due date. I think it is because I was not able to submit quizzes for grading since I was a non-paying student. It is still unfair to give me an "overdue" mark.
I come back a month later and find message that I did not complete assignments in time. Not true, as explained above. I'd like the course managers to mark this course "completed" because I completed everything by the original due date. Except quizzes that were locked to me. [4]... Read More

I learned some much. For example, I knew there was a difference between proofreading and editing. However, I learned that I did both proofreading and editing at the same time while working with documents. I had a complete "wow" moment once I learned the true difference with the responsibilities between a proofreader and editor.
This course was a refresher for me, but I'm more out practice than I would like to admit. The instructor has provided such knowledge in a fun way to help remember the facts throughout the course.
I'm thinking about taking another course to brush and hon my skills.
Thank you! [5]... Read More
