I wanted one cohesive, all-encompassing tutorial that would take me all the way through the animation process from one case study with one teacher. This course provided that in an effective way. One of the most beneficial aspects of this course was the additional knowledge provided of Photoshop. Tools that were used were explained in an accessible way while still providing deep insights. When something in Photoshop was used, such as the ruler, how to access it would be explained, even though it is there by default, just in case it had been hidden during usage previous to this course. User review:
It helped me understand the emotional side of framing a scene. So I'd say that this was useful in its approach. However after finishing this course, I have to say that there are a few things that could of made it into this essentials course. This is mainly to do with the perspective angles, and to sum it up, I believe that more creative shots like reflections from neighboring objects or surveillance camera perspectives could have been incorporated as shot that can make the scene overall to be appealing to view.
I do understand this is meant for beginners and that may account for why the course is so short and why the lessons were very bare bones, but adding more creative shots in the fold can make beginner's animations look even more visually appealing. But like I said, this course does what it sets out to do and that fine by me. I presume that the more complex course probably have what I stated before, if not though, please consider my suggestions.
Otherwise good lesson and can't wait to start your next course about body language. [4]... Read More

User review:
I was really enjoying this course and learning a lot. However, I reached lip sync and suddenly got lost because of expressions. The problem is not that there are expressions in the program the problem is that there is no explanation on why the expression works or how it works. In other words, you won't learn how to build an expression to make your lip sync work. You'll be stuck with hoping that you can use the script in the tutorial to make it work. If you have problems with it, then good luck. The extent of the training you get on the expression is copying and pasting, and you don't know why you're linking pieces together. I guess that wasn't important in this video. My best guess is that another program handles this that they put out, but they never say either way. It is really a shame because the course is really good other than that problem. [7]... Read More

OK Jeff, I have to update this review. Seven months later, I have actually learned how to draw and now having completed all three of your assignments in this course I can say with absolute certainty - your course is like a hidden gem for people wanting to learn how to animate. So thoughtful, so thorough. You provide a step-by-step guide to animating with examples that are simple-yet-challenging and engaging. Even the ninja was a great idea - instead of having to worry about animating facial features, we have a character whose face is covered up so we get to focus more on broader movements. I’m really grateful for this. Looking forward to any other updates or animating courses by you!
